The event

The competition will take place in the wild landscapes of the Southernmost point of the Patagonia Argentina, known as Ushuaia, Tierra de Fuego (Land of Fire). This land of explorers offers all kinds of trails, from meander through valleys, to high mountains and lands where rivers interconnect lagoons by the shores of the Beagle Channel. Participating runners will run across a variety of terrain such as peat bogs, loose rocks and pastures.
Rosana Bertone, Tierra de Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands Governor, welcomed the runners:

“We are delighted to welcome you all to our home in Tierra del Fuego, the world’s southernmost province, here in Patagonia. We’re very pleased that this remarkable and highly prestigious international trail-running event landed in South America and we are proud that Ushuaia is the host city. We invite you to discover the beauty of this region and we wish you best of luck for a successful race”

Being so close to Antarctica, Ushuaia’s climate is similar to that of the Alps at an altitude of 3,000 metres. During the day, temperatures can reach 11°C in the valleys but on the mountains, where the majority of the race will take place, temperatures can drop as low as -10°C, particularly at night. At times, the wind can reach up to 80 km/h.
Daniel Catania, Technical Director of Ushuaia by UTMB®, said:

“The runners will get to know some of the most striking landscapes here and will be challenged with difficult climbs and descents, running on a variety of terrain, and will experience four seasons in one day, including some extreme condition”.
