UTMB®, CCC®, TDS® & OCC

UTMB® - CCC® - TDS® – OCC Entry Process

Introduction

There are two ways to register for UTMB®, CCC®, TDS® and OCC races of the UTMB® Mont-Blanc :

  • Using running stones
  • participating in the lottery

In both cases, the runner must have the requested qualifying points.

Registration dates

December 1-17, 2020: Solidarity bibs registration (entry process soon to be published)

January 5-12, 2021: Direct entries through running stones and pre-registrations for the lottery

January 20: Results of the lottery

January 20-31: Runners who have been selected via the lottery must finalize their registration

Qualifying Points

Registration is only possible for runners who have previously completed some of the races included in the UTMB® list of qualifying races between January 1st, 2019 and December 31st, 2020: click here to read the regulations concerning the 2021 UTMB® qualifying races.

  • UTMB® : 10 points acquired between 01/01/2019 and 31/12/2020 (in 2 races maximum)
  • CCC® : 6 points acquired between 01/01/2019 and 31/12/2020 (in 2 races maximum)
  • TDS® : 8 points acquired between 01/01/2019 and 31/12/2020 (in 2 races maximum)
  • OCC: 4 points acquired between 01/01/2019 and 31/12/2020 (in 2 races maximum)

Finishers of the 2018 UTMB® races may also use these races as qualifying races.

The qualifying races used by runners to finalize their registration are verified through the official race results.

In case of inaccurate or false declaration – or if it is not in compliance with regulations - regarding the qualifying races the organization reserves the right to cancel the registration of the runner without refund of entry fees and to remove any advantage (additional tickets) if the runner was not selected in the lottery.

For further information, please consult the FAQs section.

Registration with running stones

Running stones allow access to the UTMB® Mont-Blanc without having to go through the lottery. Running stones are awarded to the finishers of a network of races that are part of the 2020 world circuit. (Click here to find the complete list of races awarding running stones)

How do I collect running stones?

Races "by UTMB®"

The number of running stones acquired by completing a "By UTMB®" race is equal to 3 times the number of ITRA points awarded by the race.
For example, being a finisher in a 6-ITRA-point "By UTMB®" race allows you to gain 18 UTMB® running stones.

UTWT Races

The number of running stones acquired by completing a UTWT race is equal to the number of ITRA points awarded by the race.
For example, being a finisher of a 6-ITRA-point UTWT race allows you to gain 6 UTMB® running stones.

This only applies to races on the UTWT race calendar.

Local Runners

MCC finishers collect 6 running stones (2 ITRA points x 3)

Validity of running stones

Running stones expire after 4 years. For example, if I collected 18 running stones in 2020, I can use them to enter a 2021, 2022, 2023 and/or 2024 event. If they are not used during those 4 years, they cannot be used for 2025 registration.

How do I apply for entry with running stones?

To register for a 2020 race, you must have enough running stones at the time of registration:

  • UTMB®: 18 running stones
  • CCC® : 15 running stones
  • TDS®: 15 running stones
  • OCC: 12 running stones

NB : these races do not award any running stone.

Once they have gained the requested number of running stones, runners can trade them for a direct entry to the race of their choice without having to go through the lottery. In order to benefit from this advantage, it is mandatory to register in the allotted period (January 5-12, 2021) and to have the necessary qualifying points. Registration is finalized only when entry fee is paid.

Special Consideration

Runners not selected in the 2019 and 2020 lottery for the same race

Their advantage (direct entry without having to go through the lottery) is maintained. They will be able to register for the same race in 2021 if they have gained their qualifying points during the qualifying period.

Cancellation of a registration

If you wish to cancel your registration, you will lose the running stones you have traded for your entry.

Trading running stones for lottery tickets

Runners who do not have enough running stones to get direct entry to the race of their choice, may trade all or part of their "stock" of running stones for additional tickets thus improving the probability of being selected. 1 running stone = 1 ticket for the lottery.

Entering the lottery

Runners who do not have enough running stones to register for the race of their choice may participate in the lottery.

Pre-registration

Pre-registration for the lottery is open from January 5 to 12, 2021.
When pre-registering for the race of their choice, applicants will be asked to pay by credit card a 50€ security deposit (secure online payment). The deposit is refunded if the runner is not selected in the lottery. Selection of a valid qualifying race will be part of the registration process. Your application will be rejected if you didn’t complete a valid qualifying race during the qualifying period.

Lottery

If the number of applications for a race exceeds the maximum number of runners that can be accepted, a lottery will be carried out.

The results will be posted on January 20, 2021 at 10:00 am (Paris time) in the list of registered participants on our web site and on your runner’s account, and will confirmed by email.

Selected lottery applicants

Runners who have been selected via the lottery have a period of 11 days, from January 20 to 31, 2020, to finalize their registration by paying, by credit card, the balance of the entry fee.

Those who do not finalize the payment of their registration by January 31, 2021 - at the latest – will lose the possibility to participate in the race and will not receive a refund of their security deposit. They will benefit from no advantage (additional tickets) for the following year’s lottery.

Registration will be finalized once all the compulsory information has been filled in (declaration on honor, medical certificate, race pack collection venue, transport reservation) - as soon as these services are available in the runner’s account.

Unaccepted lottery applicants

Runners who failed to gain entry into the race will receive a refund of their €50 deposit within one month from the date of pre-registration.

They will receive an additional ticket to be used in a subsequent year’s lottery for the race of their choice, thus increasing their chance of success* - IF they have the necessary qualifying points.

* if a runner has 2 tickets, their name appears twice (“in the hat”) for the draw, thus doubling their odds in the lottery vs someone who only has 1 ticket. If a runner has 3 tickets, their name appears 3 times for the draw, thus tripling their odds in the lottery, and so on.

NB: No direct entry is guaranteed if a runner is not selected multiple times in the lottery.

Group Registration

It is possible to pre-register as a group (minimum 2 people, maximum 12 people per group, with your partner, running mates, etc.).

The only advantage of the group registration is to have the same result in the lottery for all members of the group (that means, everybody is selected or nobody is selected).

The probability of being selected is the same for all runners, whether they are pre-registered individually or as a group.

The first member of the group who pre-registers must click on "Group Registration" thus obtaining a group number which has to be communicated to the other members. Then, each runner in the group must access their individual runner’s account, click on "group registration", enter the group number transmitted by the first member of the group and finalize the pre-registration.

A group may consist of runners pre-registered for different races (except for MCC and PTL®). In this case, the group participates in the lottery for the race for which the percentage of chance of winning is the weakest. A group may consist of runners owning a different number of tickets. In this case, every member of the group participates in the lottery with the number of tickets of the member of the group that has the least number of tickets. In this case, if the group is not selected in the lottery, runners will obtain an additional ticket on the basis of the tickets they had individually before the group pre-registration.

Special Consideration

Runners who do not have enough running stones to get direct entry to the race of their choice, may trade all or part of their "stock" of running stones for additional tickets thus improving the probability of being selected. 1 running stone = 1 ticket for the lottery.

Cancellation of a registration

If you wish to cancel your registration, you will lose the tickets that you have “spent”.

Registrations for elite runners

In order to give fair recognition to high level athletes and to ensure a fair management of registrations, we reserve places for elite athletes who request to participate in one of our races, according to 2 criteria:

Elite runners must have gained the required number of qualifying points.
