UTMB® an ecologically responsible event

Let's respect this great playground

Ultra-Trail® : l’environnement est une priorité! par UltraTrailMontBlanc

The Mont-Blanc Massif is actually a fragile natural environment to which we must pay great attention. To contribute to the protection of it, we are counting on the engagement of each person. We have the duty of doing all that we can to limit our impact to the minimum.

As the organiser, the UTMB® has developed numerous actions to protect the natural environment and to raise awareness amongst all the players. This is a collective action which involves the organisation, regional groups, runners and supporters, partners and volunteers( Ambassadors for the Environment).

We, ourselves, have formed a Commission for the Environment which guides the projects and we set ourselves ambitious environmental objectives. We are always looking for ways of progressing in this domain and incite everybody to adopt an ecologically responsible attitude.

Raising awareness

Since 2004, the organisation has set up communal transport specially for accompanying persons, so as to reduce the number of vehicles around Mont-Blanc and to release green-house gases and polluting particles.

During the race

The advantages

For the runners: less stressful, less tiring, the guarantee of being on time for the start (CCC®, TDS®, OCC, MCC)

For accompanying persons: not getting lost, not having to look for a parking lot, being dropped near the refreshment post, the guarantee of being on time for giving your assistance, less stressful, less tiring. It is also less onerous than with you own vehicle, in particular for going through the tunnel to Italy. So many good reasons for traveling by bus.

The results of our efforts :

1 optimal transport plan FREE for runners and volunteers
4 roads closed in order to favour communal transport
20 000 people transported
47 buses simultaneously to take runners and those accompanying them to the start of the CCC® in Courmayeur
1 940 transport tickets distributed
1 209 people collected from their area of their lodgings between Les Houches and Vallorcine in order to avoid congestion in Chamonix
1 lone helicopter for image production
