UTMB® International

In 15 years, UTMB® has become a “must-do” international event known as the ‘World’s Summit of Trail Running’. Its unique expertise inspires many organisers especially in countries or continents new to the sport.
UTMB® International was created to speed up and control the international development of the UTMB® brand, and work with events organisers from all over the world.

UTMB® International’s ambition is to contribute in the next 10 years to the birth of major and popular trail running events organised with very high quality standards, in every continents. Improving the runners’ safety will remain a top priority as well as the quality of the “journey” offered to runners and their supporters.

UTMB® International will work with professional and independent events organisers to be certain that the local territories’ knowledge and authenticity will remain unspoilt. UTMB® International will advise and grant up to five ‘by UTMB®’ labels to events meeting requirements on every continent.
Each event will have to be organised in a mountainous environment and be based around an iconic and easily accessible location with high quality facilities. To meet the requirements, events must also offer different race formats (including a 100-mile distance) to attract thousands of participants every year from around the world.

Val d'Aran by UTMB®, the new trail-running event in the heart of the Pyrenees

The first edition of Val d’Aran by UTMB®, originally planned for 3-5 July this year, has been postponed to 2021. The event organisers have decided, along with the health authorities and in coordination with UTMB® Group, to postpone the race due to the exceptional situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The inaugural edition of Val d’Aran by UTMB® will take now place on 9, 10 and 11 July 2021 and it will include all the distances originally planned: Torn dera Val d’Aran, VDA (162 km), Camins de Hèr, CDH (105 km)  Peades dera Aigua, PDA (55 km). Other programmed events such as the Trail Festival Baqueira Beret and the 15 km SKY Baqueira Beret race will also be rescheduled to these dates. Val d’Aran by UTMB®, which is also part of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour international circuit, has grabbed the attention of runners from all over the globe, with the 55 km PDA race already sold out. More than 85% of the available bibs for the other two longer distances (VDA and CDH) were also sold to a total of 3,700 runners, 56% of which were from outside of Spain.

“This new event in the heart of the Pyrenees allows us to further enrich UTMB® offer in term of terrain diversification, presenting a new stunning mountainous course with a strong characterization, differing from the Alpine one” added Michel Poletti, UTMB® co-Director

Thailand by UTMB®, “The Roof of Thailand”

The event will be based around the highest mountain in Thailand, Doi Inthanon in the Chiang Mai Province, and at 2,656 metres, it is known locally as “The Roof of Thailand”. This national park is located in the north-west of the country, allowing runners the chance to get off the beaten track and experience a true adventure; crossing rivers, chasing hidden waterfalls, passing royal burial grounds, and learning about the local people. The first edition will take place from 30 October to 1 November 2020. Save the date!

Trail runners can choose from four distances; the 175km ‘Inthanon 6’ ultra-race, the ‘Inthanon 5’ 120km, ‘Inthanon 4’ 80km race and the shorter ‘Inthanon 1’ 25km race. The race names refer to the number of ITRA points earned by the finishers, and full course details will be announced on 10 March 2020, when registrations will officially open.

Catherine Poletti, UTMB® Group Chairwoman: “Thailand by UTMB® features world-class trails, and this beautiful, welcoming country has so much to offer to visiting runners. As Thailand prepares to reopen for business and welcome runners in a safe manner, we are confident we can help spread that message to the world and will do everything possible to ensure that this new event is a source of growth for the region

Panda Trail by UTMB®, a true Chinese experience

Panda Trail by UTMB® provided an epic and unforgettable challenge for trail runners this weekend in China’s Sichuan province, earning its place alongside the most prestigious races from across the globe as part of the 2021 Ultra-Trail® World Tour. And as trail runners from around the world begin to dream and plan their next great challenges in 2021, which for many will mark a return to organised events, the organizers of Panda Trail by UTMB® have confirmed the second edition will take place from the 19-21 November next year.

Part of the UTMB Group family of events, which includes the most famous trail running event in the world, UTMB® Mont-Blanc, Panda Trail by UTMB® concludes the 2020 season for the Group which has also seen the successful organisation of Thailand by UTMB® as well as virtual editions of the international races which have engaged thousands of runners around the globe. Four distances including 160km, 106km, 49km and 26km, provided a variety of landscapes combining nature, culture and history: from the mountainous terrain and bamboo forests where wildlife reigns supreme, to roads winding through local villages and world heritage sites, runners left with indelible memories, strained legs and smiles on their faces.

Catherine Poletti, UTMB Group Chairwoman: “Panda Trail by UTMB® is held in the cradle of Taoism and in the land of the panda and the organizers have fully embraced this spirit to deliver an exceptional event with a true Chinese experience. As we look ahead and begin to think about our future travel plans, Panda Trail by UTMB® offers a unique experience to discerning international runners.”
