UTMB® an eco-responsible event

Let's respect this great playground

Ultra-Trail® : l’environnement est une priorité! par UltraTrailMontBlanc

The Mont-Blanc Massif is actually a fragile natural environment to which we must pay great attention. To contribute to the protection of it, we are counting on the engagement of each person. We have the duty of doing all that we can to limit our impact to the minimum.

As the organiser, the UTMB® has developed numerous actions to protect the natural environment and to raise awareness amongst all the players. This is a collective action which involves the organisation, regional groups, runners and supporters, partners and volunteers( Ambassadors for the Environment).

We, ourselves, have formed a Commission for the Environment which guides the projects and we set ourselves ambitious environmental objectives. We are always looking for ways of progressing in this domain and incite everybody to adopt an ecologically responsible attitude.

Environment Committee

The UTMB® Environmental Commission

The UTMB® Environmental Commission was created in 2006.

It is chaired by Patrick Deschamps, in collaboration with Jules Pijourlet, and consists of persons who actively participate in the organisation, elected representatives of the communes concerned, by the event, and representatives of associations working in environmental protection.

Its mission is to identify the risks engendered by the event and to propose concrete action to protect the environment. It then assesses the event and suggests improvements or new ideas to implement.

The work was realised by the Environmental Commission in association with the Espace Mont Blanc, within the framework of its sustainable development plan, with ended on July 28th, 2008 with the signing of an Ethical Contract, establishing concrete actions to minimize the pollution inherent to the race in order to fight against wastage of materials and energy, and to incite individuals to adopt responsible attitudes towards the environment.

Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® also, and actively, participated in the work group set up by the Direction Départementale de la Jeunesse et des Sports de Haute-Savoie, which resulted in drawing-up the "Charter of sustainable development for sporting events"
