2015 registrations

In 2015, the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® will take place from August 24th to 30th.

UTMB®, CCC®, OCC, TDS®, PTL®: Registration is closed

Since 2007, registration has only been possible via the internet. Taking in to account the very large number of requests, it is the only way to deal with them in a fair and efficient manner.
There is no waiting list. The most part of cancellations are made at the last possible moment, and is not feasible to envisage running one of these races without adequate preparation. The registrations are managed through over-booking, that’s to say that we take more runners than there are places for at registration to account for those places as we anticipate cancellations. So, all runners have the same amount of time to prepare themselves.

PTL®

Registration will be open on December 17th 2014 and will be closed when the event is full (maximum 250 runners).

It is open to teams of 2 or 3 persons of whom at least one must have finished, in the past, the UTMB® or the TOR DES GEANTS, or one of the previous PTL®. Dispensations may be granted upon the decision of the race direction upon presentation of a prize list for the last three years, as well as for holders of certificates for state or federal diplomas (high mountain guides, walking guides, instructors…)

The team leader (which is necessarily a UTMB®, Tor des Géants finisher, PTL® or ...) makes the pre-registration for all his team at the same time.

Enrolment fees

2015 Enrolment fees:
PTL® : 670 € / team
Of which 1.5 euro per person is an éco participation to finance cleaning, restoration or rehabilitation of footpaths

UTMB®, CCC®, TDS®, OCC

Pre-registration dates

A pre-registration period will open from December, 17th 2014 to January, 6th 2015 during which time all candidates will be able complete their application form, including qualifying courses, for the event of their choice. This form will be validated by the payment of 50€ deposit payable by credit-card (secured on-line payment)

Qualifying races

Registration for each race is only possible for those runners who have finished the relevant qualifying races between January 1st 2013 and December 31st 2014: click here to read the rules concerning the qualifying races for the 2015 Ultra-Trail®

UTMB® : 8 points acquired between 2013/01/01 and 2014/12/31 (in 3 races maximum)
CCC® : 3 points acquired between 2013/01/01 and 2014/12/31 (in 1 or 2 races)
TDS® : 3 points acquired between 2013/01/01 and 2014/12/31 (in 1 or 2 races)
OCC : no qualification points needed

The 2012 finishers of the UTMB®, CCC® and TDS® may also use these races as qualifying races.

Important fact: the rise in the number of required points (from 7 to 8 for the UTMB® and from 2 to 3 for the CCC® and TDS®) is a temporary measure. As from registration for 2017 the organisation envisages the setting up of qualification criteria which include minimum experience in a mountain environment. More complete information will be available as from February 2015.

The Draw

If the number of pre-registrations is superior to the permitted number of runners, a draw is organised.

The principle of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® is to offer routes along foot-paths, sometimes just a simple track, around Mont-Blanc. For reasons concerning safety, respect for the environment and the quality (respecting runners themselves who do not want to run in queues...) it is necessary to limit the number of runners on the starting line.

Reserved places

Some places are reserved for: our partners’ teams, international elite (based on the performance index produced by the ITRA), for solidarity race-bibs (donations to charitable associations) and for certain journalists (who write their reports from the inside), as well as certain very active volunteers.

Available places

We calculate the level of overbooking necessary to guarantee that, despite cancellations, there will be no fewer runners ion the starting line than the fixed limit. We then know the maximum number of runners who can register and it also allows us to accept the correct number of runners for each race.

Method for the draw

Taking in to account the number of requests for registration and the number of runners whose names will be drawn, this draw is made by the computer. For this, we use the Excel programme and its « alea » function (in terms of probability, this procedure is rigorously identical to a classic draw). This function attributes a random number to each runner, which allows for a fair draw.

The event is international, so to guarantee equity amongst the nations and to ensure the largest number possible, the draw is made nation by nation.

Priority registration and coefficient of 2

Priority registration

Runners who have been refused twice for the same race in the draws for 2013 & 2014 and who never transferred their registration to the TDS®, will benefit individually from a priority registration for the same race (without passing through the draw – under the condition that they have the required points) in 2015.

Coefficient of 2

The runners who were refused in the 2014 draw, who didn’t transfer their registration to the TDS®, will benefit individually from a coefficient of 2. This advantage doubles their chance of success in the 2015 draw (under the condition that they choose the same race as in 2014 and that they have the necessary qualifying points for 2015). In terms of probability, the coefficient of 2 is rigorously identical to a classic draw where the individual holds two tickets.

These runners must pre-register during the pre-registration period mentioned above; if you do not pre-register in the time limit given your advantage will be lost for ever.

Group registration

It is possible to pre- register in a group (minimum 2 persons, maximum 12 persons with your partner, your running mates etc.) The only interest in group registration is having the same result for all group members in the draw, whether it be positive or negative.
The probability of being lucky in the draw is exactly the same for runners who have pre-registered in a group or individually.

The first member of the group who registers must click “Group registration”; they then obtain a group number which they pass to the other members of the group. The others must then enter this number into “Group registration” when they register themselves.

A group may consist of runners pre-registered for different races (excluding the PTL™). In this case, the group participates in the draw for the race for which the percentage of chance of winning is the weakest.

If those runners benefiting from an advantage (co-efficient of 2 or priority) wish to register in a group, there are 2 possible situations :

  • The group is made up of runners who benefit from an advantage (coefficient of 2 or priority) and others who don’t
=> those runners with an advantage loose their benefit by registering as a group member and the chances for the group are the same as for any other runner who has no advantage.
  • A group is made up of runners who all have the same advantage
=> all the group keep the advantage for the draw.

NB: after the draw, each registration then becomes individual; if for example a runner chooses to cancel his registration, it does not have any bearing upon registration of the other group members.

NB2: Those persons refused in the 2014 draw and who have chosen to transfer their registration to the TDS® have renounced their advantage (coefficient of 2 or priority) for 2015.

Results of the draw

The results will be announced on January 14th 2015 at 10.00 (Paris time) in the list of persons registered and on your runners file at our web-site www.ultratrailmb.com, and will be confirmed by email.

A positive Draw

Those runners lucky in the draw then have a period of 14 days, January 14th to 27th 2015, to definitively finalise their registration by paying, by credit-card, the balance of the registration price and sending in all the required supporting documents.

Those persons who do not finalise their registration in the permitted time lose their place, the deposit will not be returned and they will have no advantage (co-efficient of 2 or priority) for the draw the following year.

A negative draw

  • Runners participating in the draw for the first time

Those unlucky in the draw will have their 50€ deposit returned.
They will benefit with a co-efficient of 2 for the draw the following year which will double their chance of success to gain entry to the race chosen in 2015 ( on the condition that they have the necessary qualifying points for 2016).

  • Runners befitting from a co-efficient of 2 (= those unlucky in the 2014 draw)

In the case of a second failure in 2015, runners may register with priority for 2016 (without passing thought the draw for the same race as in 2015), on the condition that they have the necessary qualifying points for 2016.

The allocation of these advantages (co-efficient of 2 or priority) is only effective once the qualifying races claimed by the runner have been verified.

Important fact: These rules are evolving and are liable to change each year. What ever happens, the registration conditions for one year are announced the preceding February.

Verifying qualifying races

All the qualifying races used by the runners to finalise their registration are verified, through official race results.
The Organisation takes in to account the results of each individual runner (even if a race was run as a relay or as a team member).

The runner must ensure that they feature in the official race results, and that their family name and first name are spelt correctly.

In the case of a false declaration of qualifying races, not conforming or untrue, the organisation reserves the right to cancel the runner’s registration without refunding the rights of engagement and to cancel their advantage for the following year (coefficient of  2 or priority) in the case of a negative draw.

The organisation of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® is on no account responsible if a race, not supplying the necessary elements or not satisfying the qualifying conditions, is not recognised as such. Runners who are not satisfied must address the organisers of these same races.

The qualifying races are managed under their own regulations. Click here to consult these regulations.
NB: in the case of a shortened route of a qualifying race, a premature end to the race or cancellation, or in the case of over-estimation of the distance or positive height gain in a race, the qualifying points will be recalculated in relation to the true characteristics, and that could be after the race itself.

Runner’s commitments

By registering, each runner personally agrees to engage in the following :

  • I declare that I have read and understood the regulations and ethics of the race (available at www.ultratrailmb.com)
  • I understand and approve of the conditions of participation which figure in the regulations
  • I agree to respect all items of the regulations
  • I agree to scrupulously respect and promote the ethic
  • I agree to be aware of any medical condition which could concern me and, consequently relieve the organisation of any responsibility for any medical problem which may arise during the event due to any negligence on my part
  • I have read and understood that in the case of a false declaration of qualifying races, not conforming or untrue; the organisation reserves the right to cancel my registration without refunding the rights of engagement and to cancel my advantage for the following year (coefficient of 2 or priority) in the case of a negative draw.
